Moms Going Out was created by Dara Kelly and Sheri Gurock, both local Brookline moms, business owners, and friends. They met because Sheri and her husband own Magic Beans, a retail company that started in Brookline and sells toys for all ages and baby gear. Dara is a renowned personal trainer and fitness expert who specializes in pre- and post-natal wellness. Sheri sold strollers to pregnant women. Dara wanted some pregnant women to train for her new business, Peapod Fitness. A partnership was born.

Then Dara trained Sheri to run a half-marathon, and after many hours on the track, their friendship was sealed. It was a big bonus when they both became pregnant with their 3rd children just six weeks apart. After the baby boys were born and the dust cleared, Dara came to Sheri with an idea – could they pool their resources to create fun and engaging events for moms in the local community? And so, Moms Going Out was born.

And then, in the spring of 2010, Dara and Sheri met Kim Foley MacKinnon, a local Boston author, and social networking genius, for coffee. The coffee was good, the conversation was fabulous, and Dara said “HEY! I like you! You know a lot more about a lot more than I do and you are supercool. Want to be my friend?” Sheri echoed the sentiments in not quite as dorky a manner. And so, Kim joined the team of Moms to help scout out more opportunities for Moms Going Out, and add even more fun to the team. Kim recently released the popular book “Boston Baby: A Field Guide for Urban Parents” and is the founder/editor of website The Savvy Factory;
