We’re so excited about Babies, the breathtaking, new documentary film that’s coming out this week (on Mother’s Day – when else?). From the looks of the trailer, this will be a fascinating look at contrasting cultures, as seen through the lens of raising children. The film follows the lives of four babies, one from Mongolia, one from Namibia, one from Tokyo and one from San Francisco, through the first year of life, from birth to first steps. The cinematography is lush and the babies are so. freaking. cute.

Frosted Cakes

A few years back, I started developing a fascination for cake decorating. Over the years, it’s taken on a life of its own, a sort of hobby-hurricane that has swept up my husband and a number of close friends and family members in its wake. These days, when a special birthday is approaching, you’ll always find me in the kitchen, up to my elbows in frosting and food coloring.

Sounds like all the ingredients for love, right? Well, sort of. Let’s call this a dress rehearsal for Valentine’s Day (or anytime you’re in the mood for love). Wow, what a way to finish off our 2009 Moms Going Out series. This past Tuesday, millions of moms(ok, slight exaggeration, but the energy FELT like that many people) descended on Magic Beans as we celebrated the holidays with a private shopping and wrapping party. While we shopped, we replenished our energy with a lavish spread by the new and fabulous Regal Beagle, right next to Magic Beans. A yummy start

We’re delighted to announce that registration is open for our first event.  On October 19th, we kick off our series, with a cooking demonstration and tiny tasting with Lisa Sewall, chef/owner of the nationally renowned LINEAGE Restaurant here in Brookline.
