INSTANT DINNER, INSTANT SUPERMOM… November 18, 2010, 7pm
Here we are, back in the swing of things. School lunches, weeknight dinners-at first thrilling and full of promise at the dawn of the school year-are now back to basics, back to boring. How many different types of pasta are there out there? Ask my kids-they’ve had them all. Who has time for nutritious, fabulous meals in the midst of all this chaos?
SUPERMOMS DO!! Ok, real moms do. With the help of Healthy Habits. That’s why Moms Going Out is making this month all about fun, easy, delicious, and DIFFERENT meals for you to create. Effectively turning you from Clarissa Kent into SUPERMOM!!
Join us on Thursday, November 18th at the Healthy Habits Kitchen in Wellesley, where we will be treated to a workshop on how to build a better meal in minutes with Healthy Habits meal kits. Add to that a little lunchbox tutorial, where we’ll learn about the building blocks of a healthy, cost effective, environmentally friendly lunchbox and foods to match. In addition, we’ll discuss the importance of involving your child in the process–from writing a list, to looking online and bringing them to the store with you.
Cristin Jones, a registered dietitian and the writer of the most popular blog (Eat Like Me) on SELF Magazine’s website, will be our speaker.
A little wine, a few friends, and the opportunity to create superhero worthy meals in minutes. No need to bring your cape. We know you’re a supermom, no matter what you’re wearing…Register now.

BYEBYE MUMMY TUMMY TAKE 2!… January 9, 2011
After a long holiday season full of yummy treats, and snuggling by the fire, your body may start to feel a little, well, sluggish. And while we’re all for the feminine curves, sometimes it feels nice to bust a move and regain that strong central core. It IS January, and resolutions are thrown about like snowflakes, so why not resolve to hop off the cozy couch for an hour or two and join us at BODYSCAPES FITNESS for a jumpstart to the year. Dara Kelly, owner/master trainer of Peapod Fitness (fitness for new and expectant mamas)will be conducting a master class on how to do an intensive, calorie torching, core strengthening workout in a short amount of time. Because as we all know, SOMETIME moms get busy and don’t really have a ton of time to ourselves. So we’ll break a sweat, groan in agony for a minute or 10, and then chat about making the most of your workouts, proper nutrition for the family, and what is the most effective way to achieve your goals. It’ll make those “get in shape” resolutions a (small-all in moderation!)piece of cake.
FEBRUARY
SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING, MAMA! February 11, 2011 at 7pm
Sigh. I’ve been feeling so exotic and beautiful these days, suffocating in layers, shuffling along in bigfoot boots, and covered by a coat that makes me look like the Staypuff marshmallow guy. So sultry, right? Midwinter is setting in, and the recent snow dump is not doing anything to alleviate the blahs. I may be the only one feeling like this, but I’m going to take a chance and guess that at least one of you out there is ready to shake things up a bit.
Shake it up, you say? What better way to get things shakin’ than to transport yourself to a land far far away (Jamaica Plain), and immerse yourself in the tantalizing movements of bellydancing. No, no. Princess Jasmine attire not required. Just you, your fabulous self, and a fun, open attitude.
Belly dance is a beautiful dance form from the Arab world. Size and shape are irrelevant to achieve graceful, pleasing, and feminine movements. We dance with our whole bodies, using our arms and hands, hip and torso isolations, basic footwork) and short combinations and drills for a fully enjoyable workout. Belly dance will help you gain strength, flexibility and appreciation for your gorgeous body. Once you learn the steps, other people might sit up and take more notice of that gorgeous body as well. Wink, wink.
Join us for a fun evening of dancing, noshing, and imbibing on fun drinks and nibbles as we giggle, or seriously attempt to swing our hips to the music. Let yourself go, shed those winter blahs, and come play!!
Our instructor Susi Good has been teaching 19 years. She holds a BFA in Art Education and taught visual art in the Austin public schools and at the Art Museum School in Austin Texas. She has been studying the dances of the Middle East since 1993, training extensively in Egyptian, Lebanese and Armenian folk dances and oriental women’s solo dance (bellydance). She is a popular performer and instructor by night; by day she runs the TWDC office. www.susidancer.com.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S MARKET DREAM July 22, 2010 6:30pm
Berries bursting with luscious flavors, sweet corn piled high between rows of succulent tomatoes, flowers spilling from baskets surrounding freshly baked pies and breads. It’s not heaven, but it very well could be. Farmer’s Market season is finally upon us, and it’s up to us to make the most out of every sumptuous moment of it. Moms Going Out is thrilled to present an evening of delectable bites-both physical and intellectual. Join us for a fabulous Midsummer Night’s Dream Soiree, where we will be treated to a tour of the Brookline Farmer’s Market, followed by a reading and demonstration of the hottest new trend in sustainable agriculture and local food movements-canning and preserving- by author Sherri Vinton (www.sherribrooksvinton.com). She’ll show us how to choose the freshest produce, and then, even better, show us how to prepare it! I bet we’ll figure out how to eat it all on our own…
Fresh, wholesome bites; creative cocktails; an evening with one of the Slow Food Revolution’s hottest authors…maybe we are in heaven after all. Registration is $20. Register now.

NOVEMBER
STRIKE A POSE, BABY 11/11/09 6:30 pm
It’s that time again. The season of photos. Holiday photos, party pictures, and of course, the holiday card. It’s a great time to learn how to “take” the perfect picture. Naf, our favorite photographer, will be joining us to teach us how to work the camera to take that just right picture (no more cut off heads!). He’ll give us some lessons to help us actually take great photos in any situation. And then our favorite presto-change-o makeover mama, Emily Neill of Closet Smarts will talk about how to “take” a great photo. Emily’s superpower is that she is able to look at a woman and see her beauty from all angles-especially the ones we don’t see ourselves. She can take your clothes and makeup and make you look BETTER in them. Perfect timing for those holiday photos. Join us on November 11th from 6:30-9 for fun, food, and photography on both sides of the lens… $5 registration fee.
DECEMBER
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD… 12/15/2009, 7-9pm
Magic Beans Wrapping Party with special guest MELT, a feel good spa treat store.
The holidays are a time for giving, but take a night off and enjoy some getting instead.
Get some private shopping time, get some exclusive deals, and get a lesson in giftwrapping from the pros at Magic Beans PLUS get special treatment(s) with the most soothing, all natural spa products (are you KIDDING?) from our new neighbors at MELT.
Enjoy some snacks, sip some wine, and watch the stresses of December melt away (pun intended), as you surround yourself with fun, friends, laughter, and good smelling stuff, all at the Magic Beans store on Harvard Street. Can’t wait.
Caveat: Since most of us are infused with the guilt gene, making it near impossible to enjoy yourself without feeling like you are abandoning small children or needy husbands, we’re making this a “giving” event as well. Please bring a donation for our wonderful partner charity, Cradles to Crayons. Clothing in good condition-for all ages-is welcome, as are toys, books, hygiene products (new and unopened). Bring a little, bring a lot. Bring something for those who have not…
JANUARY
AB FAB with Dara Kelly, owner of Peapod Fitness, and Lisa Johnson, pilates guru/owner of Modern Pilates
Join us tonight for a humbling trip right to the core of your soul. Fine. Too dramatic. But honestly? That last canape on January 2 (I love leftovers) may do me in. The doughy consistency of my long forgotten core will no doubt mirror the puff pastry of that canape. And so, with a sigh, I will concede to the inevitable journey back to fitness after a seasonal sabbatical. At least I’ll have fun moms joining me, though. C’mon. You know you want to. Deep down, you really do.
Dara and Lisa will teach you (yes, you WILL have find your abs again) how to tighten that core, stand up tall, and be forever ab fab with simple, easy abdominal and core (that includes the low back, you know!) exercises that will change the way you look, feel, and breathe forever. And that’s a fact. Slimmer, stronger, taller (well, in appearance, anyhow) in an instant. It’s magic for life. Really.
Since Dara and Lisa will be spending most of the time with you “hands on”, we are limiting the event to 16 people. However, we ARE offering two sessions. 1pm-2:30pm, and 3 pm-4:30 pm. Be certain to check the correct time slot when you register!
BONUS EVENT!! WARM BREEZES AND WILD FLOWERS…
January 21st, 7-9pm at Melt and Kabloom
Brrrrr! It’s cold out there! We’ve come up with a fun way to escape winter’s deep freeze-a warm, flowery fete at Melt and Kabloom. We’ll be treated to mini spa treatments featuring Melt’s amazing products, and Kabloom will teach us about our favorite flowers, and how to create that perfect-for-you arrangement. We will create Valentine Wishlists for you to distribute brazenly and boldly to loved ones, or anyone who owes you nice things. Or, you can just sit back, relax, sip a signature cocktail, nibble some nibbles, soak in the tropical air for a few hours and forget about the bitter cold winds outside…
FEBRUARY
SEDUCTION JUNCTION
WINE, CHOCOLATE and SEX with Sommelier Kate Webber, the fine folks at Finale and… The Mominatrix!
February 9, 7-9pm at Finale Desserts in Coolidge Corner
Ok. So much pressure out there on the husbands/partners/friends this month. Why not just take the reins and whip up some fabulous plans for Valentine’s Day? We can help. Even with the whipping part. No, but really. We’re so excited to welcome renowned author Kristen Chase, author of The Mominatrix’s Guide to Sex for an enlightening mini-libido boot camp, just in the nick of time. Tapping into her experience as a mom who’s managed to maintain a healthy sex life and a sense of humor with kids in tow, she’ll talk about how to reclaim your inner Mominatrix. PLUS, somellier Kate Webber will be on hand to talk about pairing wine with yummy chocolate desserts, and our amazing hosts from Finale will be supplying some delectable samples of both. Join other romantic, chocoholic, and wine lover moms for a casual, stress free evening at Finale. Red roses are nice, but mom friends last forever (awww). Registration is only $5.
MARCH
HAVE YOUR CAKE… AND EAT IT TOO! 3/22/10 7pm
Cake decorating at Party Favors…sugar, spice, and lots of frosting-that’s nice!
OK. We’re now officially in that “winter is dragging” period. Where oh where is the sun?? Who cares? When you are decorating cakes at the nationally acclaimed Party Favors, nothing else really matters. This is our most intimate event yet (no, Mominatrix, not THAT kind of intimate) – it’s limited to just 12 participants. But those lucky 12 moms will get to spend an evening in the kitchen at Party Favors learning from frosting guru and Party Favors owner John Pergantis. Plus, everyone will get to decorate and take home a cake. $40 registration fee includes the workshop, refreshments, the materials, the cake and the sugar high.
APRIL
CALLING ALL FASHIONISTAS…AND FASHIONISTA WANNA-BE’S
Trunk/fashion show PLUS finding the right fit at MINT JULEP
Those fabulous fashion mavens at Mint Julep are out to help moms like me dress in fun, functional clothing. (Does this mean I have to abandon my running skorts?? Yoga pants?) So often I look at Heidi Klum and say, “Huh. Well, I could be JUST LIKE HER if I had clothes that fit me like that” (and if I were 6 ft tall, genetically predisposed to be slender, and was actually a supermodel). Well now I can. Ok, at least I can learn how to work with what I’ve got, and find some clothing that fits my personality and lifestyle. Which is decidedly not that of a supermodel, but after working with these girls, I’ve at least got a shot at not being the most sloppily dressed mom at drop off. Bonus.
Bigger Bonus: Since it’s a private event just for us moms, we get a DISCOUNT on all purchases made that evening. It really doesn’t get any better than that.
MAY
MAMA’S ROCKIN’ THE RED CARPET
Special screening of the soon-to-be released film, BABIES…
May is here, and we have so much to celebrate. Springtime, the onset of summer, friends, family, and MOTHERHOOD!! Yahoo for Moms! What better way to celebrate than to gather with other moms to toast our fabulousness and have the opportunity to attend a screening of what is sure to be one of the most popular movies of the year. That’s right; we’re strolling the red carpet as one of the first groups to see BABIES, the new documentary that follows four babies from different corners of the earth for their first year of life. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be glad you’re a mom.
We’ll convene at the Coolidge Corner theater at 6:30pm to mingle, then watch the 7:00 showing. Post-movie, we’ll gather for some fine fare and sip some drinks in one of the private rooms at the Coolidge as we are joined by a guest lecturer who will discuss all things mom and baby.
What better way to celebrate motherhood? New film screening.. champagne.. and the company of other fabulous moms. Sounds like a perfect evening to me…
